Families~
Hope this post finds you all doing well. As we have reached our Thanksgiving break, I wanted to update all of you on some information:
1. PLEASE keep checking your child's Student Planner every night. Continue to use it as a starter for conversations of what happened at school for that day. In addition, please have the students clean out their home folders nightly as scored work can be found there.
2. Multiplication "timed tests" have gone very well lately! Starting the Monday we get back from break, we will change over to testing ALL facts up to 10x10. The students have already mastered the majority of the facts, so there's only about 7-8 facts left to learn. Please assist them in any way possible to learn those last few, and we will continue to track our progress.
3. Book Orders are due 11/30. I know it's a fast turn around, but I want to make sure I have them delivered by winter break so the students have some great reading on hand!
4. Thank you for your continued support and trust. Have a great, relaxing, well-earned break with your families!

1st Blog Post of 2016-2017!!!
Happy Tuesday Families!!!
If you are receiving this message, congratulations! You have officially signed up for my blog! (If you are one of my families from last year, feel free to unsubscribe by clicking on the word unsubscribe at the bottom of this email message). I had some problems with the software last year while trying this, but I have resolved all of them and it's ready to go! Updates:
1. PARTY!!! We earned our 1st class party that we will celebrate THIS THURSDAY! Please check the home folder tonight for a form to sign as part of our party!
2. Field Trip - A note went home yesterday concerning the field trip. Please fill this form out and return ASAP. If you are interested in volunteering, please check that box and make sure you have been fingerprinted by the district in past years.
3. Writing Paper - We have started research on a famous scientist/person who made historical contributions to our society! This process is ongoing and will be formalized into a paper within the next few weeks. Please continue to check in with the students about their research/papers to see if they need any guidance.
4. Antidisestablishmentarianism. Yes...that's correct. This Thursday, every student will be able to spell that word! While I understand the insignificance of just memorizing letters, I want the students to be able to understand that if they work hard in life, anything is achievable. What better way to prove that than giving them the longest word in the English language! Below there's a funny video that can help them practice and study.
Sorry so long...have a great week!

Enormous Update!!! (Sorry)
Well, well, well...It's been a while. There are quite a few updates, and they all have popped up at the same time! Please take a few minutes to read through these, as I feel they are of some importance:
1. Reading Incentives - As was sent home a few weeks ago, we are getting rewarded for one of life's best things...READING! In addition to their monthly Pizza Hut Book-It program, they also had a chance to earn a free Six Flags ticket just by turning in their Feb reading calendars. Some students forgot, so I'll also accept their March calendars if necessary. In class, we will do all the read-to-self minutes it takes to earn a Kane County Cougars ticket, which will be provided as soon as possible. While not reading related, please keep up with the Raging Waves exercise sheet as well to earn a free ticket there! Whew...that's quite a bit for not doing very much :)
2. ISATs are currently in progress and all is well so far! We will continue to test until Wednesday of next week. Thanks for all the support/big breakfasts provided to the students...the tests have looked really great from a quick glance.
3. Field Trip - A note went home this week concerning the field trip on April 4th. Please find that letter and return it with a $5 payment ASAP. As for the chaperones, I will draw 4 out of the pile of volunteers early next week, and thanks to all who were able to volunteer.
4. Spring Conferences - A note is coming home with the students today about conferences. You are only asked to come if a conference is requested. However, if you'd like to meet to discuss any concerns, please know I'd love to chat about your son/daughter. There's not a whole lot of information other than what comes home weekly and the most recent MAP tests which came home last week. At the end of the year, however, I'm hoping to plan a night where all parents can come in together to see our class results and individual results of the Spring MAP scores (taken in late April/early May). It's been a celebration of great results the last 6 years, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed for similar results :)
5. Biography Projects - Over the next couple months, IN CLASS, we will be researching a famous person (we've already made our choices). We will then turn our notes into a Powerpoint, complete with many facts and pictures. Then, we will present these in front of our classmates in probably early May. ALL OF THIS PROJECT WILL TAKE PLACE AT SCHOOL. Once the projects are completed, the students can take their flash drives home to practice/clean up their work. Once again, this ensures the child's sense that they completed the entire project on their own, and it also creates a fair balance for those students who don't have the same resources as others.
***Well, thanks for taking a few (OK 10) minutes to read through some of the exciting things (other than those tests) that are happening in our class. Thanks again for the continued support, understanding, and encouragement you have each given this year. While things are going great in class, please know I refuse to become complacent and just "survive" until the end of the year. I will continue to do WHATEVER it takes to get your children completely ready not just for 5th grade, but for a lifetime of learning.

3rd Quarter Up and Running
Parents~
Happy 2014! After a few shortened/bizarre weeks, we are back in the swing of things now...with only 1 day off between now and Spring Break (and I now you're happy about that:). The report cards from 2nd quarter were ready for viewing Friday, and can still been seen if you haven't had the chance yet. Some of the students are told on a few of you that haven't seen them due to various reasons. If you need any help, please contact the office and they will assist you.
I'll do my best to keep you updated with upcoming events/projects when they pop up, and as always thanks for all the continued support!

Last Post of 2013!
Families~
Happy New Year!!! I truly hope you have been enjoying some valuable family time this break. I just wanted to make sure I updated at least once over during this break, and yesterday I decided my break was over and I'm ready to get back into school mode:)
On a side note, I want to take a second to say THANK YOU to each and every family who thought about mine during the holidays. Every gift was greatly appreciated, and words cannot express how blessed I am to work in such an amazing community with such caring families. Thank you very much!
Before break, I sent home an extra credit sheet for the students to consider. I highly recommend at least looking at it at this point (if you haven't viewed it yet). This extra credit will be applied to their 2nd quarter report card which will be finalized our next week at school. Many of the ideas are quite simple with some being more complex. Points will be awarded accordingly. (I'll put a few useful links below).
I'm very excited to see all the students again next week (and yes, I'm being serious). A break is always nice, and I love spending time with my family, but I have been missing my "other family" a lot. Enjoy the last few days!

American Education Week Thank You!!!
Just wanted to give a quick "Thanks" to all the volunteers who made it out for American Education Week right before break. Instead of just saying thanks or making cards, our class decided to do this:
American Education Week Thank You 2013-2014
P.S. Hope you all had an excellent Thanksgiving and enjoyed some quality time with your families!
