Very sorry I forgot this, but in addition to Field Day, today is also our 4th grade Yearbook signing! I did tell the students about it, but forgot to remind them of it yesterday :( If you see this before school, please communicate it with any other classmates as well to bring their yearbooks! Thanks!

Genuis Hour Presentations
Families~
I am so excited about our information we've collected for our "Genius Hours." Basically, we've set aside time the last few weeks to research ANY topic that interests each individual student (we have quite the assortment from Area 51 to the Nervous System to the Berlin Wall). Your child's job is to become an "expert" in the topic they chose. Starting immediately over Spring Break, the students will start presenting their ideas in ANY STYLE THEY CHOOSE. Their "grade" is based around the work they put in and the knowledge the rest of the class gains based off the presentation. It is not at all about a "project" or a materialistic "thing" so please don't think you need to go nuts building a human robot to offer h'orderves during their presentation. However, sticking with the idea of presenting information in a way that will help the other students retain the topic, it may be helpful for them to have some kind of visual (TOTALLY up to the student). I do want it to be the student's work, so please try to refrain from helping as much as possible...it's about them exploring and creating what THEY think works best. We will work on these (whether electronically or by hand) over the next few days before break, and the students will be expected to finish over break. They won't be allowed to read whole sentences off of anything during their presentations, so they will have to rely on their visual and KNOW the information well. If there's any other questions, please check with your student or me, but my answer is pretty much going to be, "whatever the student wants to do" as that's the idea behind the Genius Hour. Fun Happenings Coming Up!!!
Families~
Here's a happy post :) We've a few fun events coming up in the next two weeks!
1. FORE Family Fun Golf Night is January 24th (next Tuesday). I am resending a form home to every student who didn't sign up just in case you still wanted to (you have until tomorrow to sign up). I'm super excited and we have 20 students' families who plan on attending! If you can't all make it, but it would be possible for your child to still go, please have them ask a friend to tag along with them! I just want as many students there as possible!
2. Lakewood Creek Library Night at the Montgomery Library on January 26th (next Thursday). This will be the first time doing a night at the library, but it looks like tons of fun! Teachers will be reading books every 15 minutes and many other activities will be out for students of all grades!
3. We are 1 more "point" away from earning our next class party, so I should be sending a letter home early next week (hopefully).
***Thanks again for all the continued support throughout the year. I fully appreciate the kind words, treats, and most importantly sending your child to school every day as well-prepared as possible. Please continue to check those folders, practice multiplication facts, play on Dreambox or MobyMax, and discuss their planners with them daily. It's the time of the year when most people slip from their routines (students and parents alike :). Stay healthy, and I'll see most of you next Tuesday!

Quick Update
Families~
Happy freezing weather! Just wanted to send out a quick update before break! We have been chugging along at a brisk pace to ensure a solid stopping point before the students leave us for the break. 2nd Quarter is set to end on next Wednesday the 21st (last day before break). As it doesn't appear this weather is leaving us anytime soon, please make sure your child is dressed appropriately before leaving in the morning. Recess is a day-to-day decision here at Lakewood Creek, and some students have been underdressed the last few weeks :(. Lastly, the school would really appreciate some feedback in regards to improvements we can make to make this the best place possible for your child. The survey will only take about 10-15 minutes, and Mrs. Ancel would really appreciate your time! Here is the link, and thanks in advance! http://survey.5-essent

Thanksgiving Break
Families~
Hope this post finds you all doing well. As we have reached our Thanksgiving break, I wanted to update all of you on some information:
1. PLEASE keep checking your child's Student Planner every night. Continue to use it as a starter for conversations of what happened at school for that day. In addition, please have the students clean out their home folders nightly as scored work can be found there.
2. Multiplication "timed tests" have gone very well lately! Starting the Monday we get back from break, we will change over to testing ALL facts up to 10x10. The students have already mastered the majority of the facts, so there's only about 7-8 facts left to learn. Please assist them in any way possible to learn those last few, and we will continue to track our progress.
3. Book Orders are due 11/30. I know it's a fast turn around, but I want to make sure I have them delivered by winter break so the students have some great reading on hand!
4. Thank you for your continued support and trust. Have a great, relaxing, well-earned break with your families!

1st Blog Post of 2016-2017!!!
Happy Tuesday Families!!!
If you are receiving this message, congratulations! You have officially signed up for my blog! (If you are one of my families from last year, feel free to unsubscribe by clicking on the word unsubscribe at the bottom of this email message). I had some problems with the software last year while trying this, but I have resolved all of them and it's ready to go! Updates:
1. PARTY!!! We earned our 1st class party that we will celebrate THIS THURSDAY! Please check the home folder tonight for a form to sign as part of our party!
2. Field Trip - A note went home yesterday concerning the field trip. Please fill this form out and return ASAP. If you are interested in volunteering, please check that box and make sure you have been fingerprinted by the district in past years.
3. Writing Paper - We have started research on a famous scientist/person who made historical contributions to our society! This process is ongoing and will be formalized into a paper within the next few weeks. Please continue to check in with the students about their research/papers to see if they need any guidance.
4. Antidisestablishmentarianism. Yes...that's correct. This Thursday, every student will be able to spell that word! While I understand the insignificance of just memorizing letters, I want the students to be able to understand that if they work hard in life, anything is achievable. What better way to prove that than giving them the longest word in the English language! Below there's a funny video that can help them practice and study.
